Employee story
Rasmus Hjelmgart Godiksen has a dream job
He can come up with an idea, design a spectrometer from scratch, build a prototype together with his colleagues – and then test it at Ibsen Photonics’ facility in Farum.
“I’ve become a link between optical design, experimental testing, and mechanical design. Designing is very much a collaboration between optics and mechanics. How do you mount all the components in the spectrometer? I really enjoy being involved in every stage – from design to production,” says Rasmus, Optical Designer at Ibsen Photonics.
With a PhD in nanophotonics from Eindhoven University of Technology, Rasmus joined Ibsen three years ago. Today, the company has grown to around 85 employees.
“The best part of working here is the great colleagues—skilled, friendly, and always ready to help or challenge you. Most of us have technical backgrounds, which makes collaboration really rewarding.”
Part of Rasmus’ job is to communicate with customers and develop customer-driven projects in a variety of different industries, ranging from the food sector to the building industry and medical industry. Having this connection with the customers makes it clear how he takes part in making a real difference.

In addition to working on Ibsen’s spectrometers, Rasmus also participates in EU-funded research projects, where he gets to experiment with other cutting-edge spectrometer designs.
What he appreciates most about Ibsen is the pure focus on creating the world’s best spectrometers and gratings.
“You really get to dive deep into a specific field. That’s something I personally enjoy a lot.”
