New highly efficient CMOS detector for FREEDOM

The FREEDOM 100 spectrometers provide sensitivity and cost comparable with traditional cost efficient CCD-based spectrometers. Typically, spectrometers with CMOS line array sensors have 50 – 100 times less sensitivity than spectrometers using CCD line arrays. However, the new CMOS line array used in our FREEDOM 100 series enables roughly the same sensitivity in the visible and even higher sensitivity in the ultra violet.

Freedom 02FREEDOM combines compact size, cost efficiency, and high performance with a now even greater flexibility in the choice of detector system. These benefits make FREEDOM especially well-suited for integration into portable and handheld instruments.

Comparison of SONY ILX511B CCD and Hamamatsu S11639 CMOS for UV-VIS Spectroscopy

SensitivityIt is generally a difficult task to make a direct comparison of detector arrays based purely on the data sheet information. Therefore, Ibsen Photonics have done comparative measurements on the SONY ILX511B CDD and the Hamamatsu S11639 CMOS detector arrays when used inside an actual spectrometer unit, and in this Technical Note we show results for sensitivity and Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) for the two detectors. We have used the Ibsen Photonics FREEDOM UV-NIR FSA-300 spectrometer covering 190 – 1100 nm for the test.
