Oil and gas

In the oil and gas industry it is crucial to be able to detect toxic and explosive gases. On the other hand, the environment can be quite harsh and due to the risk of creating sparks that can ignite a fire or explosion it is often not preferable to use electrical sensors. For this reason optical sensors using spectral methods are a good option.

A common method is to use absorption spectroscopy whereby the concentration of the un-desired gas is directly related to the absorbance at a specific wavelength.
