Light and display
Modern flat screen color displays use advanced technologies such as Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED). Unfortunately, these technologies does not always produce the same color and furthermore, the color might depend on the viewing angle of the screen.
Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and adjust each screen during manufacturing. This monitoring can be done with colorimeters or spectrometers in the visible region that measures color in a standardized manner.
Light sources for general lighting are also shifting towards Light Emitting diode (LED) which are power efficient and hence more sustainable technology. Again, LED does not produce the same consistent (white) color as traditional incandescent or halogen lamps. Color sensor systems specifically made for analyzing and testing the spectral content of light sources use spectrometers for the extended visible region from 360 – 830 nm.
